PureVPN Review Best VPN For Travel

Having a reliable VPN service is essential for today’s travelers. No matter if you’re a full time digital nomad, or just vacationing for a couple of weeks, you need to ensure your data is safe and sound. And since you found your way here, I assume you’re are looking for the best VPN for travel.

Well my friend, you’ve come to the right place! In this article I’ll talk about how to secure your data on the road.

First and foremost, let me tell you that I used to be a big fan of ExpressVPN. But that love story ended after one too many annoying glitches, and I switched over to PureVPN 6 months ago. What shifted in PureVPN’s favor was mainly two things: their 7 day money back guarantee and the juicy 19% promotion.

In case you’re not familiar with PureVPN, they are one of the major players in the VPN industry. As of 2018 they have over 1 Million customers and more than 10 years of VPN experience. In addition, they have a bunch of solid features that I describe in detail below.

So is PureVPN the best VPN for travel or just another scam software?

Let’s find out!

PureVPN Review 2018 – Best VPN For Travel Or Scam Software?

1. PureVPN Technical Features

One of the best features with PureVPN is split tunneling, a very useful feature for travelers and digital nomads. Strangely enough, this dope feature is not supported by many other VPN companies.

So what is split tunneling? In short, it will let you specify individual parameters for each of your connections. For example, let’s say you’re on the road but want to access your local bank in London. With split tunneling you can give your banking connection a local UK IP address, while the other connections use another proxy server. This is very useful for road warriors like myself!

In addition, split tunneling let you to split your traffic depending on how secure you want it to be. For example, you can have your sensitive traffic run through the VPN, while all non-sensitive traffic connects directly to the Internet. I find this very useful in public places with not that great wifi connectivity.

PureVPN also offers a kill switch, dedicated IP-address, DDoS protection and payment in Bitcoins. They also supports the PPTP, L2TP/IPSec, SSTP, IKEv2 (Blackberry), OpenVPN and Stealth protocols.

The license allows you to install PureVPN clients on up to 5 separate devices, which is enough for 95% of all users. In addition, PureVPN has support for all major operating systems, for example Windows, Mac OS, Linux, iOS and Android. It’s also compatible with over 20 different devices including PureVPN on Firestick, PureVPN KodiAndroid TV and many more.

2. PureVPN Server Capacity

With more than 750 servers in 141 countries, and over 88,000 unique IP addresses, PureVPN gives you many ways to connect, while also giving you complete anonymity. In addition, PureVPN guarantees a 99.99% uptime, unlimited data traffic and unlimited server switches.

Maybe now you are curious about my experiences. Well, during my 6 months I only remember a couple of times when the connection dropped off. And since I had the kill switch enabled, I noticed it right away and just reconnected. In my honest opinion, this is totally acceptable performance.

3. PureVPN Speed Test

PureVPN claims to be the fastest VPN supplier in the world. That’s quite the claim so I decided to run a speed test to see how well they stack up against one of their biggest competitors: ExpressVPN.

Firstly, let’s see the speed test in my apartment with no VPN connected:

My connection with no VPN (Best VPN For Travel – PureVPN Speed Test 2018)

It shows a download speed of 31 Mbps and a upload speed of 36 Mbps. (FYI I am currently in Saigon, Vietnam)

Secondly, here is the same speed test with my ExpressVPN client connected to a server in Hong Kong:

It shows a PureVPN download speed of 26 Mbps and a upload speed of 14 Mbps. Not too shabby.

And finally here is the same speed test with my PureVPN client connected to a server in Hong Kong:

My connection with PureVPN (Best VPN For Travel – PureVPN Speed Test 2018)

It shows a download speed of 35 Mbps and a upload speed of 23 Mbps. Wow!

As you can see, PureVPN beats out ExpressVPN in my speed test. Both for download and upload traffic. And the PureVPN download speed actually becomes a bit faster with the client connected, compared to using no VPN at all.

Another useful PureVPN feature worth mentioning is that the software automatically connects to the fastest server for your specific location. A very nice feature for us constantly on the move!

4. PureVPN Security

With PureVPN you don’t have to worry about being hacked. Their software has implemented AES-256 military grade encryption, one of the strongest on the market. In addition, PureVPN claiming they don’t log much customer activity, except a few parameters like session length and amount of data.

Furthermore, since the company is located in Hong Kong, they are not obligated by any law to hand over their data. However there are some exceptions, for example if a crime has been committed.

5. PureVPN Technical Support

PureVPN offers customer support 24/7 all year, via live chats and a ticketing system. So far, I only have good things to say about their support, and they have responded very quickly to all my requests. For example, on the live chat they will respond within seconds, and my support ticket was answered after 30 minutes. In addition, you can ask questions on their Facebook page, which I have not tried yet.

Furthermore, they have a solid FAQ section, and many installation guides for all of their supported operating systems.

6. PureVPN Pricing

PureVPN has monthly, 1-year and two-year plans, all with a 7-day money back guarantee. They accept PayPal, Bitcoin, credit cards and many other payment systems.

PureVPN Review 2018 – Andy’s Verdict

PureVPN is one of the oldest and largest VPN providers, and they offer a well rounded service that works on most devices and operating systems. In addition, the speed is one of the best I have seen, their encryption is solid and the uptime is very impressive.

However, they do have some disadvantages. For example their product page is a bit annoying, with popups that appears here and there. And at times I’ve had difficulties finding the information I was looking for. In addition there are rumors they may log a bit more data compared to other VPN services. But that shouldn’t be an issue unless you are planning to do something illegal (which I hope none of my readers will do!)

So let’s summarize my test results and then wrap it up with talking about the PureVPN pricing:

In my opinion, the advantages far outweighs the negatives, and I highly recommend PureVPN. As a matter of fact, for a short time they are having a promotion where you’ll get 19% off.
