I am fortunate to have a large social circle.
Furthermore we are a well traveled bunch of guys. As a group we have knowledge about most world class cities.
For instance, I recently traveled to Indonesia and had to find a Jakarta accommodation. As it happens, one friend is a Jakarta expert. He never lived in the city but probably spent more than a year there. And when I asked about the best Jakarta accommodation he recommended Liberty Hotel Thamrin.
It turned out to be an excellent choice. And if you keep reading I will explain why.
Liberty Hotel Thamrin Review
Before we jump into my Liberty Hotel Thamrin review, I will write a few words about arriving in Jakarta. I believe it will be useful for first time visitors. If you have visited Jakarta before you can skip ahead to the next chapter.
Arriving in Jakarta
US passport holders can stay up to 30 days visa free. And I believe that also applies to most western citizens. But check before you book your trip.
Immigration and custom went very smoothly. The lines were short and moved fast. And they didn’t asked to see my return ticket.
This time I decided to buy a SIM card at the airport, which cost me 100k Rupiah. Granted, you can find SIM cards for cheaper in the city center but sometimes I prefer paying a bit more for the comfort. As for the wireless carrier I recommend Telkomsel. I first tried Indosat but couldn’t get it to work on my phone. Fortunately, the kind store owner returned my money.
Strangely enough I didn’t see any Uber cars around the airport. Consequently I decided to take a taxi. The taxi line was outside the terminal and there were a lot of touts on the way outside, which I politely said no to. As for the taxi company I recommend Blue Bird. It’s the most reputable taxi company in Jakarta.
Do note that the traffic in Jakarta is very bad. Hence you should allow one hour to get from the airport to Liberty Hotel Thamrin.
Liberty Hotel Thamrin is situated in the heart of the Commercial Business District (CBD) area of Thamrin. It’s an easy 10 minute walk to the Grand Indonesia shopping mall. In addition, most of the Jakarta nightlife is located in Thamrin.
The hotel has 60 smoke-free guestrooms which are divided into two types: Standard and Superior room.
- Standard Room has a floor area of 24 square meters. The rooms have a mini fridge, safety deposit box, hairdryer, and a 42-inch LED television.
- Superior Room has a floor area of 28 square meter. The superior room has a better bed, designed with wood paneled headboards. In addition the room is equipped with a more comfortable chair and floor-to-ceiling windows.
I stayed in a standard room which was sufficient for my needs. The room was spacious, clean and modern. It had good air conditioning and great views.
- Room Amenities: The Wifi was excellent and the 42 inch LED TV had many English speaking channels like CNN, MTV etc. A special mention for the bed. It was one of the most comfortable beds I ever slept in!
- Room Service: The maid refilled the soap and shampoo daily. Strangely enough the room was not equipped with an iron. But after I called the reception, I received one after just a few minutes. Excellent service! I also received one bottle of water daily and complimentary coffee.
Liberty Hotel Thamrin has a 24-hour front desk, a restaurant (which served excellent food), laundry service, free wifi throughout and free parking.
The hotel doesn’t have a gym which was a bit disappointing. I like to do some exercising while I travel.
In my opinion, Liberty Hotel Thamrin is the best Jakarta accommodation in 2017. I felt that I received great value for my money. In addition, the friendly staff needs a special mention. For example, my reservation was for two queen size beds. But at check-in they could change it to a king size bed. Furthermore, they helped me with other smaller things. Like giving me ice and extra glasses for my room.
I would definitely stay here again on my next Jakarta trip. If you also would like to stay at Liberty Hotel Thamrin I recommend to use a reputable web site like hotels.com.
