I have a history of buying crappy power banks.
Especially my last was a complete disaster. Not only did it end up breaking all my USB cables, but it didn’t juice my phone as many times as advertised.
After this debacle I decided I had to invest in a better product, one that will last many years. Hence I did some extensive research and I eventually settled for the Xiaomi mi 10000mah, a small sleek power bank that looked great on paper.
Now let’s fast forward 6 months to see how this product has performed. By now I had plenty of time to form an opinion about the device, and I believe it’s time to give this power bank an honest review.
Welcome to my Xiaomi 10000 Review!
Updated March 2018.
Xiaomi 10000 Review
First and foremost, let me tell you I am not very gentle with my gear. Not only do I travel extensively, but I am also a very active person. I often say that if a product can survive my lifestyle, it’ll be good enough for 95% of the general population!
For example, my Xiaomi power bank has traveled with me to to Europe, South America and South East Asia. In addition, I bring it along when I lift weights, train boxing and doing my interval training. Not an easy life!
Now when we got that out of the way, let’s see how the Xiaomi mi 10000mah has fared living the Andy Traveler lifestyle for 6 months!
The Xiaomi mi power bank has a sleek aluminum body with nice rounded edges. It’s very light (207 gram) with a small compact form factor (130 × 71 × 14.1 mm) and it fits comfortable in my hand. In addition, the aluminum surface is not slippery, minimizing the risk for accidental drops.
Furthermore, the interface design is very simple. The device has only one button which is used to turn it on or off. In addition, there are four LED lights that indicates current battery level, and two micro-USB ports.
The Xiaomi mi 10000mah comes in two colors: noble silver and charcoal black. I have the silver version.
The Xiaomi mi 10000mah is equipped with high-capacity Li-Pol batteries manufactured by ATL and Lishen, providing the device with fast two-way charging. The on-board microchips are produced by the American company Texas Instruments.
According to the specification, Xiaomi mi 10000mah should be able to juice your phone 2 to 3 times depending what brand of phone you have, a claim that so far has been pretty accurate. In fact, I can even get a bit more juice out of it with my Samsung S6 Edge.
In addition, the charging is very quick. The device is 100% full after a few hours of charging.
Since I never wear a jacket in South East Asia, I want all my devices to fit comfortable inside my jeans pockets. In addition to that, when my phone is charging, the phone, the power bank and the USB cable all need to be in the same pocket.
That’s a lot of stuff!
But due to it’s small size, I have no issues fitting the Xiaomi mi 10000mah inside all my jeans pockets. Even when it’s charging the phone.
Xiaomi claims that their power bank is waterproof, resistant to corrosion, scratches, dents and discoloration.
Though I haven’t verified the water proof claim yet, I can confirm there are no major damages on the aluminum body. The only visible damage after 6 months of heavy use is a tiny scratch which I think is acceptable. You can see it encircled in the image below.
But I have noticed that the side body has become a bit discolored. The side body is white but has turned a bit blueish as you can see in the encircled image below. I suspect the discoloration comes from my Denim jeans, but it doesn’t bother me too much. And if you buy the black model, it’ll definitely won’t be an issue.
In addition, I haven’t noticed any degradation in performance. The Xiaomi mi 10000mah can still juice my phone three times without a recharge.
So let me summarize my Xiaomi 10000 Review:
- Great performance
- Great durability
- Sleek Design
- Small formfactor
The only downside I noticed is the slight discoloration on the side body, but that’s not a big deal.
All things considered, I am very happy with the purchase of this power bank. I can honestly say this is the best power bank I have owned, and a serious contender for being the best power bank 2018.
